Joint Replacement

What is a Joint Replacement? An arthritic or damaged joint such as a knee or hip is removed and replaced with an artificial joint, called a prosthesis.

Patients who undergo surgery to replace a knee or a hip are often apprehensive about returning to their lifestyle pre-surgery. Our experienced staff of rehabilitation professionals are here to provide our patients with a level of assurance and comfort that when they finish the rehabilitation process, they will be able to return to an active lifestyle.

We work one-on-one with all our total joint patients to decrease swelling and increase range of motion after surgery.Exercise is an important part of the recovery process. Your orthopedic surgeon in conjuction with our staff will discuss an exercise program for you after surgery. This varies for different joint replacements and to meet the various needs of each patient.

Back Disorders

Almost everyone will experience low back pain at some point in their lives. This pain can vary from mild to severe. It can be short-lived or long-lasting. Treatment for low back pain focuses on relieving your symptoms. In many cases, a combination of treatments will help you to return to all the activities you want to do.

Since 1986, we have treated all forms of spinal disease at Plainview Physical Therapy. From the patient with disc herniation and radiculopathy, to the musculoskeletal and rheumatological patient. All patients differ in symptoms and needs. Our physical therapists are trained and educated to provide hands-on care with the use of strengthening equipment and treatment modalities such as electric stimulation and ultrasound.

Balance Disorders

A balance disorder is a disturbance that causes an individual to feel unsteady, for example when standing or walking. It may be accompanied by feelings of wooziness, or having a sensation of movement, spinning, or floating. Balance is the result of several body systems working together: the visual system (eyes), vestibular system (ears) and proprioception (the body's sense of where it is in space). Degeneration on loss of function in any of these systems can lead to balance deficits.

There are various options for treating balance disorders. One option includes treatment for a disease or disorder that may be contributing to the balance problem, such as ear infection, stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s, neuromuscular conditions, acquired brain injury, cerebellar dysfunctions and/or ataxia. Individual treatment will vary and will be based upon assessment results including symptoms, medical history, general health, and the results of medical tests. Most types of balance disorders will require balance training, performed by a physical therapist.

Physical Therapists often administer standardized outcome measures as part of their assessment in order to gain useful information and data about a patient’s current status. Intervention programs may include training activities that can be used to improve static and dynamic postural control, body alignment, weight distribution, ambulation, fall prevention and sensory function.

Fall Assessment Programs

Home accidents among the elderly are a common cause of injury, disability and death. When a senior chooses to live at home, you must consider the individual's mental status, physical limitations and environmental factors that can increase the chance of injury.

One in three adults age 65 and over fall each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Falls can cause broken bones, head trauma and other disabling injuries, so it is important to assess the functional ability for individuals that fall into this category.

The physical therapists at Plainview Physical Therapy can provide a fall assessment test, utilizing standard tests developed by leading physicians and research specialists.

Symptoms can be acute or chronic, and treatment is aimed at eliminating the precipitating factors. Many symptoms may not appear related to the TMJ itself.

The following are common symptoms; headaches, ear pain and dizziness, clicking when opening or closing the mouth, neck and shoulder pain or tinnitus.

Testimonials

I had surgery in May and my neck was very swollen, I couldn’t turn my head. After only 8 visits I was able to turn my head which gave me the ability to drive again, instead of asking my Husband, Daughter, and Son to drive me everywhere. The staff are amazing. Shiv and Jonna both worked with me, they were friendly and very professional! I never had a long wait, the receptionists were great also, and I highly recommend Plainview Physical Therapy! All around an excellent experience!

I am currently going to therapy for a year in my rota cuff. After 5 weeks I am much stronger without pain, and just started hitting a tennis ball, love it.
But I've been in there care for rehab after a knee replacement. The whole staff is wonderful. Thank you
.

I have been going to Plainview Physical Therapy on and off, as needed, for the past 10 years. Everyone in the office is friendly and helpful and after a while, you really feel like you're part of the family. The therapists are absolutely excellent; they've gotten me through knee surgery, stiff necks, and back issues. Four of my family members go there as do some of my friends, many of whom I recommended. Love you Plainview PT!
